Hello,

I haven't used this laptop in years, as I had a company laptop. Well I need to get into this one and have forgotten my password. Please help.

@Rachy57, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've forgotten the password to your HP laptop and haven't used it in a while, don't worry, there are a few ways to regain access depending on the type of account you're using.

If it's a Microsoft Account (most common on Windows 10/11):

  1. Go to the Microsoft Password Reset page.
  2. Select "I forgot my password" and follow the prompts.
  3. Once reset, use the new password to log in to your laptop.

If it's a Local Account (not connected to Microsoft):

If you don’t have a password reset disk, you’ll need to reset the PC:

Option 1: Use Safe Mode with Command Prompt (Advanced)

This method is technical and may not work on all systems due to security updates.

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press F11 repeatedly to enter Recovery Mode.
  3. Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.
  4. Use command-line tools to enable the hidden Administrator account or reset the password.

If you're not comfortable with this, proceed to the next option.

Option 2: Factory Reset (Data will be erased)

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it on and press F11 repeatedly to enter HP Recovery Manager.
  3. Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  4. Select Remove everything to perform a full reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
