HP Slimline Desktop - 270-p043w

I just had problem recently. I followed all suggestions I can read here. I went through all testing but for the hard drive test, since it is not available, what should I do now?   I hope someone will help and I don't need to pay money to HP to have it fixed.

Hello @BAEAUS,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

On the HP Slimline Desktop 270-p043w, the message “Boot Device Not Found” combined with SMART Drive and Long DST showing “Not Available” means the system is not detecting the hard drive at all. This is a hardware-level issue, not Windows or software-related.

This could be due to several reasons:

Loose or Disconnected Cables: The cables connecting the hard drive to the motherboard might be loose or disconnected. Ensure that all cable connections are secure.

BIOS Settings: Check the BIOS settings to verify that the hard drive is recognized. You can enter the BIOS setup by pressing a key (usually F10 or Esc) during startup. Ensure that the hard drive is set as a bootable device.

Hard Drive Failure: It is possible that the hard drive has failed and is not being detected by the system. A replacement might be necessary if this is the case.

Corrupted Data: Sometimes data corruption can prevent the system from recognizing the hard drive. Running diagnostic tests or using recovery tools might help to address this issue.

Malfunctioning Motherboard SATA Ports: If the SATA port of the motherboard is malfunctioning, try connecting the hard drive to a different port.

What to try first (quick checks)

Power off and unplug the desktop

Open the case

Reseat:

SATA data cable (both motherboard and drive end)

SATA power cable

If possible, try:

A different SATA cable

A different SATA port on the motherboard

Then enter BIOS (F10) and check if the drive appears under Storage.

If the drive still does not appear in BIOS

The hard drive has failed and must be replaced.

For further troubleshooting, you can make use of the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, which provides several tests including the Quick Test and Extensive Test to diagnose hard drive issues.

Hope this helps!
