  • In the past few weeks I've had problems waking my monitor up on my HP desktop computer using the mouse nor the keyboard help me, I had to do a hard reboot to get my monitor back up and sometimes the hard reboot did not help. Today I had to do a hard reboot and no response other than a boat device not found message on my monitor

Hi @Guido101,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

A "Boot Device Not Found" error means your HP desktop cannot detect the drive that contains Windows. Since you were also experiencing problems waking the monitor and needed frequent hard reboots, it's possible the storage drive has developed a hardware issue or is no longer being detected properly.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  1. Turn off the desktop by holding the Power button.

  2. Turn it back on and repeatedly tap the Esc key until the Startup Menu appears.

  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support.

  4. Select Component Tests > Hard Drive, then run the Quick Test.
  • If the test fails or reports No Drive Installed, the storage drive has likely failed and may need to be replaced.

Check BIOS Settings:

  1. Restart the PC and tap the Esc key, then press F10 to enter the BIOS.

  2. Select Load Setup Defaults (usually under the Exit menu).

  3. Press F10 to save the changes and restart.

If the drive is still not detected after these steps, the issue is most likely with the storage device or its connection and may require hardware service or drive replacement.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day.

I'm an HP Employee.
