Hi @RandyCBX,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for sharing the pc details! To wipe the hard drive and reload the factory image on the HP ENVY 17m-bw0013DX, here’s a step-by-step guide using HP’s built-in recovery tools:
Option 1: Use HP Recovery Manager (F11 Method)
If the recovery partition is intact:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Turn it back on and immediately press F11 repeatedly until you see the Choose an option screen.
- Select Troubleshoot → Recovery Manager.
- Choose System Recovery → Remove everything and reinstall Windows.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
⚠️ If it gets stuck on “Please wait,” the recovery partition may be corrupted. In that case, use Option 2 below.
Option 2: Use HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Recommended)
This method downloads the factory image from HP and wipes the drive.
What You’ll Need:
- A 32 GB USB drive.
- Another working Windows PC.
- Your product number: 3WF1UA#ABA.
Steps:
- On another PC, download the HP Cloud Recovery Tool:
👉 HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support - Run the tool and enter your product number: 3WF1UA#ABA.
- Create the recovery USB.
- Insert the USB into the HP ENVY laptop.
- Turn it on and press Esc, then F9 to open the boot menu.
- Select the USB drive and follow the prompts to wipe and reinstall the factory image.
🛠 Optional: Secure Erase Before Reinstall
If you want to fully wipe the drive (for privacy or resale):
- During recovery, choose Remove everything.
- Or use a tool like Diskpart from the command prompt:
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
clean
exit
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
