The system keeps restarting with a "something has gone critically wrong" message, and I can't figure out how to fix the issue. I've run system tests but I can't figure out the "failure id". During a system check the "Hard Drive Short DST Check" was failed. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Hi:
You will have to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.
That is a relatively new model you have there, so if it is still under warranty, contact HP customer service and submit a support case under the warranty to get the hard drive replaced.

If your notebook is no longer under warranty, below is the link to the service manual where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

You can reinstall W10 by making a bootable recovery drive using the HP cloud recovery client utility, which is basically the same as a factory reset, only you boot from the recovery drive.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility...You will need access to another working Windows PC for this.
