The Laptop I mentioned has an older WINDOWS 10 version that has now been UPDATED TO WINDOWS 11 24H2 (OS BUILD 26100.2705) version, and is now installed onto it, but can't actually find any compatable drivers from HP or Microsoft to use, but I have installed the best and latest ones that i know of on it. Why have UPDATES for older style Laptops, but NO DRIVERS FOR UPDATING TOO ??? WTH ??? lol...lol

@Smiley_Riley_69, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The RuntimeBroker.exe process is a core part of Windows, typically running in the background to handle permissions for apps that use certain system features, like notifications, location, etc. If it's constantly popping up with errors, here are a few steps you can try to get rid of it for good:

Run a System File Check (SFC)

Corrupted system files could be causing this issue. Let’s start by running the System File Checker tool to repair any corrupt files:

  • Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  • Type the following command and press Enter: sfc /scannow
  • Wait for it to scan and repair any issues it finds. This can take some time.

Disable RuntimeBroker.exe Temporarily

Sometimes, disabling RuntimeBroker.exe via Task Manager can help you regain control over your system temporarily, but it’s important to note that it’s not a permanent solution since Windows will restart it if necessary. You’ve already tried ending the task, but it may restart. You can try this again, but also try disabling some related services:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Under the Processes tab, find RuntimeBroker.exe.
  • Right-click on it and select End Task.
  • Go to the Services tab and look for any Background Tasks related to it. Try stopping or disabling them if possible.

Check for Malware

It could be that malware is masquerading as RuntimeBroker.exe. Run a full system scan with Windows Defender.

Open Windows Defender and run a Full Scan.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
