I have forgotten my login password for my 2009 hp pavilion 15 gaming laptop. I’ve tried every password that I normally use to log in but they don’t work.

@W0lfm4n95, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be to forget your login password. Don’t worry, I’ll guide you through the steps to regain access to your laptop.

If You're Using a Local Account (Not Linked to Microsoft):

You can reset the password using a password reset disk (if you created one earlier) or by accessing Safe Mode:

Option 1: Use a Password Reset Disk

  1. Insert the password reset disk into the laptop.
  2. On the login screen, enter any password — when it fails, click "Reset password".
  3. Follow the Password Reset Wizard to create a new password.

Option 2: Use Safe Mode with Command Prompt (Advanced)

If you don’t have a reset disk, you can try booting into Safe Mode and using Command Prompt to enable the hidden Administrator account:

This method may not work on all systems and requires some technical steps.

  1. Restart your laptop and press F8 repeatedly before Windows loads.
  2. Choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
  3. In the Command Prompt, type:net user administrator /active:yes
  4. Restart your PC. You should now see an Administrator account on the login screen.
  5. Log in to that account and reset your original account password via Control Panel > User Accounts.

If You're Using a Microsoft Account:

If your laptop is running Windows 8 or later and is linked to a Microsoft account:

  1. Go to the Microsoft Password Reset page.
  2. Follow the prompts to reset your password online.
  3. Once reset, use the new password to log in to your laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
