@tdmobile, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

We see that you're seeing an ESIF (Intel DPTF) error on your HP Spectre x360 16-aa0000 running Windows 11. Let's break it down:

What This Log Means

  • Error Module: IPF (Intel Policy Framework)
  • DPTF: Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework
  • File: WorkItem.cpp @ line 204
  • Policy: Energy Performance Optimizer Policy
  • Event: DptfAppBroadcastUnprivileged [117]
  • Error: "The feature is not implemented."

This log essentially indicates that a component of the Intel DPTF system (specifically the "Energy Performance Optimizer Policy") tried to handle a system event but threw an unhandled exception because that particular feature is not yet implemented.

Why It's Happening

  • You're likely using a DPTF version or driver set that includes experimental or stubbed-out features—functions that are declared but not yet developed.
  • This doesn't usually crash your system, but it can log errors like this and might affect power/thermal management subtly.

What You Can Do

  1. Check for Latest Intel DPTF Drivers from HP:
  2. Check BIOS/Firmware Updates:
    • DPTF often works closely with BIOS/UEFI. Go to the HP Support Assistant or support page and check for firmware updates.
  3. Reinstall DPTF Components:
    • Use Device Manager > System Devices > locate all DPTF entries (e.g., "Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework").
    • Right-click and uninstall each, then reboot.
    • Windows should automatically reinstall them. If not, use the HP installer from Step 1.
  4. Disable Energy Performance Optimizer (Optional):
    • If this specific policy is buggy, and you're not seeing performance issues, you can disable it via Registry or Intel Configuration Tool (if accessible).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

@tdmobile, Thanks for sharing the screenshots and the message. Your system (HP Spectre x360 16-aa0000, BIOS F.13, Windows 11) does not show any Intel DPTF (Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework) entries in Device Manager. Let’s go over the issue and solution step-by-step.

Issue Summary

You are seeing this error:

Unhandled exception caught during execution of work item
Framework Event: DptfAppBroadcastUnprivileged [117]
Policy: Energy Performance Optimizer Policy [1]
Exception Text:
The feature is not implemented.

And DPTF-related entries (like Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework) are missing in Device Manager under System devices.

Solution Steps

Check DPTF Compatibility

Newer Intel platforms (especially from 12th Gen CPUs onward) do not always use traditional DPTF drivers. Instead, they rely on:

  • Modern UEFI thermal management
  • Windows 11 native power/thermal policy
  • HP-specific firmware and services

So DPTF may be deprecated or handled differently on your model, even if older logs or software still reference it.

Get Correct HP Drivers for Your Model

To ensure your system has everything it needs:👉 Go to the official HP support page
Search for: HP Spectre x360 16-aa0000 (or by product ID 7M3L5AV)Then:

  • Select Windows 11
  • Download & install the following:
    • HP System Event Utility
    • Intel Chipset Installation Utility
    • HP Thermal Management (if available)
    • Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI)
    • HP Software Framework / Application Driver (optional)

Optional: DPTF Manual Installation

If you must have DPTF installed for a specific app or error logging to stop, try this:

Use with caution — these are unofficial sources and may not be supported by HP or your BIOS.

Check BIOS Settings

Enter BIOS (F10 at boot), and look for:

  • Thermal settings
  • CPU or platform power modes Ensure nothing is disabled or altered.

Additional Notes

  • The "Feature not implemented" message usually means your platform doesn’t have support for a DPTF function anymore.
  • If you're seeing random thermal errors or thermal throttling, it's more likely handled via Intel ME, Windows Power Plans, and HP firmware.

I hope this helps!

If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Yes” button to say thanks!

Take care and have a great day.

the computer was in the HP service and came back with the system installed through the service and since then there have been such problems.
