I need a (current) BIOS bin file for my HP Prodesk 400 G1 MT.

If this is your system, then the most recent bios is dated 2019

find it below

It is always dangerous to upgrade bios. Unless there is a real need and the HP support assistant requests the upgrade, I would not do it.

I'm a Slackware Linux user, so this old computer works great for me.  Trouble is that after updating my kernel, the system became unstable.  It seems to work properly now with this boot parameter added to the Grub boot: mds=full, nosmt.  So maybe I'll just leave it.

If I do decide, however, to upgrade the BIOS, can I do it without MicroSoft Windows?  I suppose the bin file is a Dos executable.  I might be able to run it.  I was hoping that the BIOS could use it directly as it is--does it work that way?

My BIOS has an option for "Flash BIOS ROM" or something like that.  Where does the system look for the file when I choose that option?

Can you use a utility like 7-Zip to extract the 00.02.56 BIOS update 96015.exe file into its folder?

If so, you can update the BIOS without being in Linux or Windows or even if the PC had no hard drive installed.

If not, I have extracted the files you need to update the BIOS, zipped them up and attached them below.

Unzip the attached file to its folder.

Get a USB flash drive.

Format it with the FAT32 file system.

Copy all of the files you see in the DOS flash folder to the USB flash drive.

Restart the PC.

Immediately press the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F10 setup option.

Select the File tab>Flash System ROM command.

Select the USB flash drive.

The PC should 'see' the files on the flash drive.

Follow the onscreen instructions to update the BIOS.
