Product: Compaq Presario 1688

I just inherited a laptop from a family member, I wiped the hard drive, reinstalled windows 98, but now I need the drivers. The web is barren of any information, and I really need the drivers.

Hi, @TrueKnightOfNi 

 

You cannot find a hardware ID for a device until Windows XP SP2 was released.

 

This site actually sells W98 recovery media for that model PC.

Otherwise you will have to use one of those 3rd party driver websites to find drivers.

 

This one is reputable, and you can download drivers individually from here...

HP stops supporting most products after 10 years. Once a product is retired, the official HP support content (troubleshooting articles, user guides, drivers, how-to videos, etc.) for that product is removed from the HP web site.
