So my laptop broke, a hinge and a cooling fan and my parents got it fixed for £150 but it’s not working it says disc error.

Hi,

Can you provide the exact error message?

Can you try running HP diagnostics at boot and see if there are any hardware problems. See if it lets you perform the hard drive test and the result.

Turn off the PC by holding the power button until complete shutdown.

Turn on the PC and repeatedly press ESC until startup menu appears.

Press F2 to enter diagnostics.

Try performing the fast test and see if there are any failure ids.

 

You could also create a bootable USB drive with Windows on it on a different PC and then use to try to reinstall the OS.
