I reset my HP 17 notebook 2014 & during the installation of windows the computer got turned off and now every time I start it, it says preparing and then an error screen pops up saying that windows didn’t get installed, to press ok to install it. I press okay, it restarts and does the same thing all over again. It also lost Wi-Fi, I was using my phones hotspot for internet.

@Aalynne, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue you're facing with your HP 17 Notebook after a reset and failed Windows installation:

Perform a Hard Reset

This clears temporary memory and can help with boot issues.

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Disconnect all external devices (USBs, printers, etc.).
  3. Unplug the power adapter.
  4. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the power adapter and try turning it on.

Use HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Recommended)

Since Windows installation is corrupted, use HP official recovery tool to reinstall Windows.

Boot from USB and Reinstall Windows

  1. Insert the recovery USB into your HP 17 notebook.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F9 to open Boot Device Options.
  4. Select the USB drive and press Enter.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows.

Step 4: Reconnect to Wi-Fi

Once Windows is reinstalled:

  • If Wi-Fi still doesn’t work, download the Wi-Fi driver from another PC: Official HP® Support
  • Search using your exact model number (e.g., HP 17-f000 series).
  • Download the Wireless LAN driver and transfer it via USB

Tips

  • Keep your notebook plugged in during the entire recovery process.
  • If you don’t know your exact model, press F1 at startup to enter System Information.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
