Hi @Zainab29,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how unsettling it must be to see a dark screen with GNU GRUB after uninstalling Ubuntu, especially when you're expecting your HP notebook to boot into Windows smoothly. Let's walk through this together and get your system back on track. You're not alone in this; many users face this after removing Linux from a dual-boot setup.

Here’s How to Fix It (Step-by-Step from HP)

We’ll need to repair the Windows bootloader using a Windows Recovery USB. Here's how:

Step 1: Create a Windows 11 Installation Media

  1. On another working PC, go to the official Microsoft page:
👉 HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support
  2. Click “Create Windows 11 Installation Media” and follow the prompts to create a bootable USB drive (at least 32GB).

Step 2: Boot from the USB on Your HP Notebook

  1. Insert the USB into your HP notebook.
  2. Power it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F9 to open Boot Device Options.
  4. Select the USB drive and press Enter.

Step 3: Repair the Bootloader

  1. Choose your language and click Next.
  2. Click Repair your computer (bottom-left corner).
  3. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  4. In the Command Prompt, type the following commands one by one:

                           bootrec /fixmbr

                           bootrec /fixboot

                           bootrec /scanos

                           bootrec /rebuildbcd

     5. After completion, close the Command Prompt and restart your notebook.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
