Hi @DawnLEvans,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is completely unresponsive and won't charge or power on, despite having worked fine recently, it could be due to a variety of reasons. Here’s a systematic approach to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

**1. Check Basic Connections and Power

  • Power Adapter: Ensure that the power adapter is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet. Verify that the adapter and cable are not damaged.
  • Power Outlet: Try plugging the adapter into a different power outlet to rule out issues with the outlet itself.

**2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect All Peripherals: Remove any connected devices (USB drives, external hard drives, etc.).
  • Power Reset:
    • Disconnect the power adapter and, if removable, remove the battery.
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
    • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try turning on the laptop again.

**3. Check Battery and Charging Indicators

  • Battery Status: When reconnecting the power adapter, check if there are any lights or indicators on the laptop that show charging status. Some HP laptops have a small LED near the charging port that indicates charging status.
  • Battery and Adapter: If possible, try using a different power adapter that is compatible with your laptop to rule out issues with the charger.

**4. Inspect Physical Condition

  • Battery and Connections: Ensure the battery is properly seated if it’s removable. Sometimes, a loose battery connection can prevent the laptop from powering on.
  • Damage Check: Look for any physical damage to the laptop, including the charging port, power button, or any signs of overheating.

**5. Perform a Basic Diagnostic

  • LED Codes: Some laptops have diagnostic LED codes that can indicate specific issues. Refer to your laptop’s manual or HP’s support site for information on LED indicators and their meanings.

**6. Test with Minimal Hardware

  • Remove External Devices: Disconnect any external devices or peripherals and try powering on the laptop with only essential components (battery and power adapter).
  • RAM and Storage: If comfortable, you can also try reseating the RAM modules and storage drive. Sometimes, improper connections can prevent the laptop from booting.

**7. Try Alternative Power Sources

  • AC Adapter Only: Plug in the AC adapter without the battery (if it’s removable) and try to power on the laptop. This helps determine if the issue is related to the battery.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
