@Frank1971, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP OmniBook XT6050 is a very old laptop. If you've forgotten the Windows user password or even a BIOS password, there are still ways to regain access depending on the type of password you're dealing with.

If it's a Windows XP/2000 login password:

Here are your main options:

Option 1: Boot into Safe Mode (if you have no password on Administrator)

  • Restart your laptop.
  • Press F8 repeatedly before Windows loads.
  • Choose Safe Mode from the menu.
  • Select the Administrator account (sometimes it has no password by default).
  • If you get in, go to:
Control Panel > User Accounts and reset your password.

Option 2: Use a Password Reset Tool

Create a bootable USB/CD with a free tool like:

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor

Hiren's Boot CD (MiniXP environment with password reset utilities)

Steps:

  • Download the tool and create a bootable USB/CD on another computer.
  • Boot the XT6050 from USB/CD (you might need to change boot order in BIOS).
  • Use the included utility to clear the Windows user password.
  • Reboot and log in with a blank password.

If it's a BIOS password (set before boot):

This is trickier, but here are options:

Option 1: Clear CMOS

  • Disconnect the power.
  • Open the back panel of the XT6050.
  • Look for a small coin-cell battery (CMOS battery).
  • Remove it carefully and wait 5–10 minutes.
  • Reinsert it and power on the laptop.

This may reset BIOS to default and clear the password.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
