Hello,
I want to format/reset my pavilion notebook, but i wanna keep certain files safe, like PDF,music,videos etc. I wanna know if there is a way to format system with exception of such files, and by formatting ,will i lose my original installed windows?

Hi:
Unfortunately, you would not be able to keep any existing files if your format/reset your notebook.
You can copy any files you need to save onto a portable hard drive, and then format/reset/reinstall W8.1.

That is correct.
Or you can clean install W8.1 by downloading the plain W8.1 64 bit ISO file from the link below and use the Microsoft tool that I zipped up and attached below that you will need to transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so that it is bootable.
Check the version of Windows 8.1 currently installed. If it is W8.1 Single Language, then download the W8.1 64 bit Single Language ISO file instead.
Download Windows 8.1 Disc Image (ISO File) (microsoft.com)
After W8.1 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
