Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I want to upgrade my untested (pre-Aug. 2013) HP 655 Notebook PC to Windows 10 - is it fully compatible?

If no, what are the problems?

Thank you!

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

I would advise against doing the Win10 Upgrade -- for two reasons.

First -- no HP Win10 drivers.

The problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in your HP PC -- and unfortunately, there are no HP Win10 drivers for your PC. HP only guarantees Win10 compatibility for machines made after August, 2013. HP is no longer producing Win10 drivers for the older machines.

This means that your PC is most likely NEVER going to be fully functional under Win10 because the drivers it needs for full functionality simply do not exist!  This is especially true if your PC has switchable graphics because, in this case, the ONLY drivers that will work properly are the OEM drivers that were written for that hardware.

Second -- no Free Win10 Upgrade, anymore.  Microsoft has officially ended the Free Win10 Upgrade yesterday, so if you try do do that now, in all likelyhood, your Upgrade will not activate and you would have to purchase a license.

They offered the Upgrade for free from August 2015 until yesterday -- and they considered over two years to be ample time for folks to try that out.

Thank you. I may buy a new HP PC with Windows 10 soon instead, as they can take full advantage (because they come with Windows 10).
