Hp X2 detachable
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi to everybody! I've a Hp X2 detachable with  only 32Gb of hard disk space and only 7Gb of free space. My native operating system is Win10 and it asks me to update to the ultimate version. The problem is that i do not have the necessary space for this operation and this update is not successful.  i've just restore the device to the factory values, but i do not have the necessary free space for the update (8 Gb required ). Can you help me please?

Thank you for posting back in the HP Support forum.

 

Most likely your recovery partition prevents Windows from updating.

 

In my opinion, the problem comes from Microsoft because they want way too much free space and way too much resourses for this. Take a look at other operating systems (or even older Windows version) and you can see things are not like these.

 

I can offer you a workaround - reinstall Windows from scratch and remove the HP recovery partition. You can use the Windows built-in systems for archive and in case of recovery is needed, you can use Microsoft utilities for recovery OR you can perform clean Windows installation again.

 

 

PRECAUTION

 

The "problem" may be in the activation, so you need to take these precations. Activate using Microsoft account/Digital license - starting with Anniversary update built from last year, if you used MS account to login to the PC and if you enabled a special option, you no longer need a license key to activate your Windows - just login and use your Microsoft account - here is more info >> http://www.windowscentral.com/how-re-activate-windows-10-after-hardware-change

 

Click on Start > Go to Settings > Click Update & security. Click Activation.

Click Add an account. (Your account must have administrator privileges to go through this process.)

Enter your Microsoft account credentials, and click Sign-in. If the local account isn't connected to a Microsoft account, you'll also need to enter the password for the ex-local account.

Once you completed the process, you should see the "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account" message in the Activation page, indicating that the linked was successfully processed.

Based on your specific case scenario, you need to active Windows your method.

 

After Windows reinstallation, go to Settings > Activation to ensure your Windows is activated.

Windows reinstallation / clean installation :

 

- You can directly download Windows 10 ISO from MS site or download >> Media creation tool from Microsoft site, create installation DVD or installation USB  and  proceed with clean installation/reinstallation.

 

Download:

Make sure you select the proper version (32 or 64 bit / Home or Pro) 

 

Media Creation tool will always provide you with the latest Windows version/build - now 1709 Fall Creators Update.

 

- When download completes, you will need to write  the ISO image and boot from a bootable media. You will need a blank USB pendrive (min 4 GB capacity)

 

 

When ready with the USB drive or with the DVD:

 

Please, shutdown the computer using the power button.

Insert the Windows USB thumdrive prepared previously

Power on the PC.

As soon as you press the power-on button, start hitting the Esc button repeatedly (like tap-tap-tap).

This should open a HP Startup Menu

 

Choose F9 to open Boot options. Select the USB thumb drive as a boot option.

 

- Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 10. Perform clean installation/custom installation (not repair).

Delete all existing partitions and install Windows on Disc 0 Unallocated space

 

- After successful Windows installation, install drivers taken from HP web site or via Windows Update/Device Manager >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03330139

 

- Make sure Windows is Activated by going to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Activation

 

- You may wish to stop some of the Windows Telemetry by using free tools such as Spybot AntiBeacon or DWS Lite

I try to install new windows the installation is done but restart again
