Hi @ss951,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your newly installed SSD is not showing up in the boot priority options in your HP Pavilion Gaming laptop's BIOS settings, there could be a few potential reasons and solutions to consider.

  • Check Physical Connection: Ensure that the SSD is properly connected to the laptop's motherboard. Sometimes loose cables or improper connections can lead to the drive not being recognized.
  • Check Compatibility: Make sure that the SSD you've installed is compatible with your laptop. Check the laptop's manual or specifications to see if there are any limitations on the type or size of SSD it can support.
  • Update BIOS: Outdated BIOS can sometimes cause compatibility issues with new hardware. Check the HP website for your laptop model and see if there's a newer BIOS version available. If so, update your BIOS following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Enable AHCI Mode: Most modern SSDs require the AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) mode to be enabled in BIOS for optimal performance and recognition. Check your BIOS settings to ensure AHCI mode is enabled.
  • Check Drive Initialization: If the SSD is new, it might not be initialized or formatted. Some laptops won't recognize a drive until it's properly formatted. You might need to initialize the SSD using a different computer, then reinstall it in your laptop.
  • Secure Boot and Legacy Mode: Sometimes, Secure Boot or Legacy Boot settings can impact the visibility of new drives. Try disabling Secure Boot and enabling Legacy Boot (if applicable) to see if the SSD becomes visible.
  • Reset BIOS to Default: If you've made a lot of changes in the BIOS, it's possible that a setting is preventing the SSD from being recognized. Try resetting the BIOS settings to their default values and see if the SSD appears.
  • Faulty SSD or Hardware Issues: There's a possibility that the SSD itself might be faulty. Test the SSD on another system if possible to confirm if it's working properly.
  • Driver or Firmware Update: Check if the SSD manufacturer provides any specific drivers or firmware updates that might help with compatibility.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
