15s-fq5019ne

Dear HP's community experts,

I hope this message finds you well.

I recently purchased an HP Laptop, model 15s-fq5019ne (6G3Q0EA). According to the specifications provided at the time of purchase, as well as those listed on HP official website, the processor is an Intel® Core™ i5-1235U (up to 4.4 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 12 MB L3 cache, 10 cores, 12 threads).

However, I have encountered a discrepancy that I hope you can clarify. When I check the processor speed in Windows, it consistently shows a clock speed of 1.30 GHz. Even when I try to stress the processor using various programs, it does not exceed this speed. Additionally, my attempts to explore options for overclocking the processor have been unsuccessful.

This leads me to two questions:

  1. Why is there such a significant difference between the advertised specifications and the actual performance? I feel misled by the information provided, as I expected a device capable of "up to 4.4 GHz," but in reality, I have a device that seems to be limited to 1.3 GHz.
  2. Are there any steps or settings you could recommend that would enable me to take full advantage of the processor’s capabilities? The device is currently underperforming, and I am quite disappointed with its performance.

I would appreciate any guidance or solutions you can provide to address these concerns. I am hopeful that this issue can be resolved to improve the overall experience with my new laptop.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Best regards,
Slah

Hi, Slah:

I'm doing fine and I hope you are too.

The Intel® Core™ i5-1235U processor has a base frequency of 1.3 GHz

Intel Core i5-1235U Processor - Benchmarks and Specs - NotebookCheck.net Tech

The processor has a max Turbo Frequency of 4.4 GHz.

The processor automatically increases the performance frequency as needed.

That way the processor can run cooler and use less power most of the time when it does not need to work hard.

You can't manually adjust that frequency and set it to always run at 4.4 GHz.

But there are things you can do you adjust the performance.

I don't know if the software at the link below will work for your notebook's processor, but it works for my Intel i5-4590 which has a max turbo frequency of 3.30 GHz and a max turbo frequency of 3.70 GHz.

But you can download it from the link below.  Intel no longer has the program for download.

There is a settings option to run at startup which is enabled by default.

I unchecked that.

Here's a video which shows the monitor in action.

You can change the size of the processor display too.
