The laptop was upgraded to Win 10 using the free microsoft windows upgrade method.

I am interested in wiping the drives and installing a clean windows 10.

Does HP offer a simple way to do this?

Is there a driver package and windows 10 package to make this seemless?

My interest in doing a clean install is

1) Getting a computer wiped of any potential security threats and garbage that have amassed over the years.

2) Recapturing hard drive space.

-20GB   -Recovery partition that would take me back to Win 7 and

-_2GB   -HP_Tools partition that does not seem to have value in the Win 10 universe.

3) Recapturing two primary partitions after the Recovery and HP_Tools partitions are deleted.  I have always been saddened that two primary partitions were consumed by HP's stuff.

PS- to save the computer for an emergency, I would make a disk image of the clean install.

HP doesn't but Microsoft does. HP has drivers you may need:

Microsoft offers the free Media Creation Tool to make a Windows 10 usb flash drive. 8gb drive required.Since you did the free upgrade you have lifetime reinstallation rights on the laptop with a digital license key stored on MS servers along with hardware id of laptop. During install if/when asked for a license/product key just choose "I don't have one" or "Skip"- whatever is available to move on with installing. Later when you are connected to internet it will activate from MS servers.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

  1. Select Download tool now, and select Run.
  2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
  3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
  4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10.

OK, but when this install of the windows program occurs...will the windows operating sysem  have some drivers that will allow the computer to download the drivers for the laptop.?

Will this process eliinate the 2 partitions.?

Or ishould the drivers be pre-downloaded for install?

Windows 10 will have a lot of your drivers, if not all, But they are available at HP if you need them.

The clean install will eliminate partitions only if you choose to delete all partitions. After starting the Install you will  select 'Custom: Install Windows only (advanced). You will be shown the hdd and all partitions. You'll need to delete all these partitions, by selecting each one and clicking the Delete icon.

I got to assume there are some thngs that should not be re-installed.  How would one determine what things to not install?  For example, the HP Security package that came with Windows 7 and ProBooks.   Also, would this process render the fingerprint scanner obsolete since that is part of the security package?
