Install OS on a new SSD

Hi All,

I've ordered a new SSD and the recovery media.
When I tried to install the recovery part go well, but on the recovery it self I get "205 : UIA write failed 3 times"

Can anyone help me ?

Is the new SSD the same capacity as the original HDD, or is it a lot smaller?

If a lot smaller, than can prevent the HP restore function from working.

Do you have any data on the drive that you need to save? If not, reinstall Windows (booting from the disc), and just reformat the drive completely.

The ssd is 500gb, the original HD is 750~

Is it a way to work around it? 

P.s -

I tried to replace the HD with the ssd (while it's empty) , and then to use the recovery media.

I do know that with the older PCs, the new drive had to be pretty much the same size as the old one for the Recovery function to work.

But, I was told recently that with the newer PCs, as long as the new drive is 256GB or more, the factory reset should work. But apparently, with yours, that is not happening and I don't know why.

If the old drive still works, you could clone it by following these instructions:

What I recommend is the following:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from here: https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
2) Connect the new drive to the PC using a USB-to-Hard-Drive drive adapter (like the one illustrated below)
3) Follow the instructions in this link: http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Cloning+a+disk
4) Shutdown the PC when done
5) Swap the drives and reboot the PC.

NOTE: To do this easily, the SDD has to be the same capacity as the HDD.  IF you get an SDD that is a lot smaller, then before you do the cloning, you have to shrink the largest partition on the HDD (usually the OS partition), to the size such that it, and the other partitions, fit easily on the SSD.

You should boot from the new drive without any problems.
