I am helping a friend with an HP Pavilion g7 1070US laptop. His original hard drive crashed and we bought a PNY 960GB SSD drive to replace his old WD 500GB. We were unable to restore his old Win 7 because while trying to create a USB bootup device the MS website said our license was OEM. So we bought a new Win 10 license with a USB stick and when trying to boot up the message; "Kernel Security Check Failure" appears and the computer reboots then cycling into the same message. I tried booting from a another USB drive and DVD ROM created by MS media creator but the same message keeps appearing.
Later we formatted the drive outside the laptop with a SATA adapter. We reset the BIOS to factory defaults. The drive is recognized by the internal BIOS diagnostic and a memory test was run also. Both pass successfuly. However, every time a bootup is attempted the system responds with a BSOD and the message; "Kernel Security Check Failure." Has anyone faced a similir predicament. I even bought an old copy of Win 7 Home edition and the installation CD has the same problem.
Any suggestions...
MJC

Hi @mjcuadra,

I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that you have replaced the hard drive, but could not install the OS on the new hard drive.
On Page 5 of the Maintenance and Service Guide of this model, there are supporting configurations of the hard drives:
Other hard drives are not supported by HP. It might be the new hard drive you installed is not compatible. Or you can refer to Microsoft for the blue screen issue.

SDJL:
Thank you for your help. I truly appreciate it. It turns out that even though the memory was passing the diagnostic test, the RAM was the culprit. Right after the crash the RAM was upgraded from 4GB to 8GB and because it passed diagnostic test from the BIOS and reflected the total amount on the configuration, the erroneous assumption was made that it could not be the culprit. After getting advice from Microsoft forum and some similar reads on this HP forum, the logic pointed to the memory. We replaced with the original RAM and the Win 10 installation went through like a charm. The new SSD is formatted and working ,giving this old notebook some life and able to continue computing into the future.
Much obliged,
MJC
