EliteBook 850 G1
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I need to install windows 8.1 in my eliteBook 850 G1. As you know this model has an HDD + SDD (32GB) for cache, but when I install windows with RAID mode (BIOS), windows install the partition system in the SDD not in HDD and when the system reboot show and error that is solved when the AHCI mode is active. my question is how I can install windows in the HDD to configure the SDD for caching.?

Hi:

See if the info at the link below is of any help to you...I would set the drive controller to RAID, because the notebooks referenced in the article all have the drive controller's defaulted to RAID, and the drive controller setting cannot be changed, because they are consumer-class notebooks.

2. Set RAID mode

3. install windows

4.with windows installed..add SSD

You're very welcome.

So your SSD cache is internal to the hard drive (hybrid drive)?

If it is, you wouldn't be able to remove it.

Hi:

Yes, if there one is a regular hard drive and one is a mSSD, then you can remove the mSSD.

You'd have to refer to the service manual for how to do that.  I wouldn't be able to help you with the process.

Chapter 5, starting on page 62.  You may also want to review chapter 4, for the preliminary disassembly info.

OK...Then I can remove it ... install win8 with RAID mode and then install the SSD and it is all is ok must be configured to be used as cache....

I agree.

If you follow that author's steps line by line, you should be all set.
