After updating to the most recent Windows 10 (2018), my computer will not connect to the internet. It will not finalize the update without connectivity. Now I can't see any of my information, docs, etc. How can I fix this?

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Please let me know the product number of the printer to assist you further with relevant steps.

Thanks for the response.

I see that this computer has an RJ-45 port. Did you try to connect an Ethernet cable and try connecting to internet?

Let me know. 🙂

I tried using an ethernet cable. It would only connect to the internet after the login was successful.  Still, a dialogue box pops up saying that location is not available. "If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted."

There is a lock symbal at the bottom right corner in the task bar. I am unable to open anything or use anything on the task bar.

Hi there, thanks for getting back to us. I see that you were interacting with @Barachiel but he is out of the office at the moment. Don't worry, I'm here to help.

Let's try restoring the computer back to the date when it was working -

1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F11 once for System Recovery.
4) Choose the Keyboard Layout.
5) Click on Troubleshoot.
6) Go to Recovery Manager and click on System Restore.
7) Choose a Restore point or a Restore date when the computer was working fine.
8) Click on OK to initialize the System Restore.

Hope this helps!

Keep me posted.

I restored it back to when it was working, but it is still giving me the same dialogue box about the location when I log in. Everything is still locked.

Thanks for the response.

If that's the case, then re-start the notebook, keep tapping ESC, and then press F11 for recovery. This time, perform a complete recovery to take it back to the factory settings, however please take a back up of the data. 🙂

Keep me posted. 🙂

Just to be sure I do this correctly, how do I backup my computer in the state it's in?

Thanks for the reply.

When you go through the F11 process of recovery, you will get an option to save your files.

You may give it a try.

Let me know. 🙂
