Hi - I am trying to determine whether my laptop has the most current BIOS.  The HP System Information utility states that I have is 01.17.00 (dated 4/12/24).  On the product drivers webpage,  BIOS 01.17.00 Rev.A (dated 5/13/24) is listed as available.  Is the 5/13/24 Rev.A a later version of the BIOS?

Thanks!

Hi:

It is the same BIOS.

The date that HP has on the support page is the date that the file was uploaded to the support page, not the date of the actual update.

You will find that to be the case for every driver date on the website vs the actual date of the driver in the device manager.

The date on the support site will always be more recent that the installed date you see on the PC.

Hi Paul, thank you for your quick reply!

As I was waiting for a response, I started a chat with HP support and they are saying that Rev.A is a newer version - even thought the actual version number is the same (01.17.00).  It wouldn't be easy if I received the same answer from them - kidding, of course.

Your answer makes perfect sense.  I'm not very surprised, but I am disappointed that HP Support would provide incorrect information.  I'm curious, what would happen if I tried to install the same BIOS version?  Would the installer allow that, and, if so, would it damage the system?  Just interested in learning more.

Thanks again!

You're very welcome.

If you look at every support page for every PC HP has, you will find that every BIOS update indicates Rev. A.

The information you were provided by the HP support person, sad to say, is inaccurate.

I believe that if you try to install the update, you will get some kind of error message because it is the same one,
