I was recently doing my homework on my laptop when all of a sudden the screen freezes. I think its no problem but when I restart my computer the screen wont turn on and the fans go full blast. I took it to microcenter after trying absolutely everything, and they said it was most likely an issue with the motherboard, GPU or CPU, and the part needed to be replaced. They claim only HP can fix it, and they were quoted 1200$ which confused me because the laptop was only 650$ new. Is there anything I can do on my own or am I just going to have to get a new laptop?

You have to replace the system board which contains
(a) New CPU/iGPU,
(b) GPU (if available),
(c) RAM (if applicable),
(d) New Windows license because we can not use old license,
(e) the motherboard itself.
You have to pay for labor and P&H cost too that why I always say to members: buy a new computer, may be ending up cheaper.
Regards.
