I have issues with typing on my keyboard after getting my battery and hinges replaced on my HP laptop. This is an occasional and seemingly random problem i keep encountering while typing on word or just playing valorant. As im typing this as well, it will randomly turn on sticky keys and just type different dialectical (?) sounds (basically letters but with pronunciation marks idk what those are called technically). the only things that seemed to have worked, with unpredictable results is 1) running ALL the diagnostics on hp support assistant and hp UEFI diagnostics (that hasn't worked since), 2) restarting my computer after a couple of days and it will work without issues for a couple of hours/ minutes and 3) reinstalling windows while saving my data. I have scoured countless forums and youtube tutorials and haven't really figured out what is this issue. I have ruled out hardware issues and initially I thought it was a windows issue as it mostly happens when I try to use Microsoft Word but honestly, no clue. can someone help me?

Hi @ANN267,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your keyboard issue could be due to a few possible causes related to software, regional settings, or perhaps minor issues in hardware connectivity after the battery and hinge replacement. Here are some steps that could help isolate and potentially resolve the issue.

Check Keyboard Layout and Language Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language and make sure only your preferred language and keyboard layout are selected. Sometimes, unexpected keyboard layouts or "input languages" may lead to typing special characters and accents.

Sticky Keys and Accessibility Settings:

  • Sticky Keys may be accidentally turned on if the Shift key is pressed too often or in a certain sequence. Try turning off Sticky Keys in Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard. Ensure that the options for Sticky, Toggle, and Filter Keys are all disabled.

Keyboard Driver Update or Reinstallation:

  • Go to Device Manager > Keyboards, right-click your keyboard, and select Uninstall device. Restart your computer, and Windows will reinstall the keyboard driver. This may reset any driver-related issues that could have arisen post-hinge and battery replacement.

Run a Full Malware and Virus Scan:

  • Rare keyboard issues could be due to malicious software. Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or another antivirus tool to rule this out.

Test with an External Keyboard:

  • If you have an external keyboard, connect it and use it for a while in the same applications where you experience issues. If the external keyboard works fine, it could indicate a physical issue with your laptop keyboard, possibly from the recent repair work.

Check for Keyboard Shortcut Conflicts in Word or Valorant:

  • Sometimes, application-specific shortcuts can interfere with typing. Check Word’s shortcut settings, as well as Valorant’s key bindings, to see if anything overlaps with Sticky Keys activation.

Consider a Hard Reset:

  • Shut down the laptop, disconnect all external devices, and press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. This can help clear any residual power that might affect hardware functions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello! none of these seem to be working.

Some additional information, if it will help:

when the issue happens, my mouse also seems to be affected. this is a dell wired mouse that I am using, where instead of the scroll wheel moving the page up and down, it zooms in and out instead, as well as when I try to left click on anything on google, instead of opening the link it seems to download the web pages instead.

i also speculated it was a windows issue so I connected with Microsoft tech support and turns out its not really a software issue more of a system specific one because when they would type my system would work fine and when id stop control my keyboard would be glitchy again. they suggested an update of the keyboard driver but the HP website doesn't have my laptop's keyboard driver available for download (my laptop is an HP pavilion 15- cs1001ne) for context I have uninstalled and restarted my computer but that doesn't seem to make much of difference.

other than a possible driver issue, what do you think it might be? should I take my system to the service center and ask them to perform a check on the components/ clean the interior of the system? any information would be helpful...
