Sadly to say: Most of the time the 24 char disk failure id indicates the HDD is failing and it needs to be replaced. Is it still under warranty ? If Yes, please call HP for a replacement.

Since your machine previously ran Windows 10, you can do a clean install W10 for free by using the media creation tool at the link below.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
The tool will allow you to make a bootable installation media (USB/DVD) and you can use installation media to install.
During the installation process if you are asked to enter a product key, check the 'Skip' box and W10 will install and then automatically activate once you are connected to the internet using the key embedded in BIOS of your machine.
Then you can install the drivers and available software you need from your PC's support page.
Regards.

Double check the failure ID Code. The translator program is saying its a bad checksum error which is worse than just a bad hard drive. However, when the translator returns that error frequently the Code has not been entered correctly so double check the zeros and Ohs and such.

I don't know if it's still under warranty. My son gave it to me as he bought himself a new laptop the second he got back fr. Deployment. It was actually given to him around June 2018.. is there a way to find out maybe?

It's the correct code, sadly... My son just got bk from Iraq from deployment and found out my laptop died... he was hoping there was a way to repair this laptop since i can't afford a new one 😢. I was right in the middle of editing my first book when it happened too. That's life i guess.

Your work is likely still recoverable from the hard drive if you need that. Sorry for your troubles. Yes you can run a warranty check based on the serial number which you should not post here.
