Hello Ansariuser132,

Thank you for posting your concern,

If you've already adjusted the BIOS settings and updated your drivers but still experience issues with the keyboard backlight timing out on your HP ProBook 640 G5, here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Update HP Hotkey Support

The HP Hotkey Support driver controls the function keys on your keyboard, including the backlight. Make sure you have the latest version installed:

  1. Visit the HP Support & Drivers website.
  2. Enter your product details (e.g., ProBook 640 G5) to access relevant downloads.
  3. Look for the HP Hotkey Support driver under the Software and Drivers section.
  4. Download and install the latest version.

Step 2: Check Operating System Power Settings

Ensure your operating system's power settings are not affecting the keyboard backlight:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
  2. Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
  3. Click on Change advanced power settings.
  4. Look for any options related to Keyboard and adjust power-saving settings as needed.

Step 3: Revert to Default BIOS Settings

Sometimes, custom changes can cause conflicts. Consider reverting your BIOS to its default settings:

  1. Restart your laptop and press the F10 key repeatedly to enter the BIOS menu.
  2. Find the option to reset to default settings (often under an "Exit" menu).
  3. Save changes and exit.

Step 4: Perform a System Scan for Updates

Utilize the HP Support Assistant to ensure all aspects of your system are up to date:

  1. Open HP Support Assistant on your laptop (search for it in the Start menu if needed).
  2. Go to Check for Updates and Messages to ensure everything, including firmware and drivers, is up to date.

Step 5: Contact HP Support

If the issue persists after attempting the above solutions, contact HP Customer Support for further assistance. There may be a specific issue related to hardware that requires professional attention.

These steps cover common troubleshooting approaches for backlight issues on HP laptops and should help resolve your problem or point towards further assistance if needed.
