Hi @dhritimanbhowal,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop keyboard isn't working, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and fix the issue.
Restart the Laptop:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve keyboard issues caused by temporary software glitches.
Check for Physical Issues:
- Ensure no debris or dirt is stuck under the keys. Try gently cleaning the keyboard with compressed air.
Test in Safe Mode:
- Restart your laptop in Safe Mode to determine if the issue is software-related. If the keyboard works in Safe Mode, the problem could be due to a conflicting program or driver.
Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager (search in the Start menu), expand the Keyboards section, right-click your keyboard, and choose Update Driver or Uninstall Device. After uninstalling, restart your laptop to reinstall the default driver.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security and check if any pending updates are available. Sometimes, updates include fixes for hardware issues.
Test an External Keyboard:
- Connect an external USB keyboard to verify if the issue is with the laptop's hardware or a software conflict.
Check BIOS Settings:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or Delete during startup). Check if the keyboard works in the BIOS screen. If it does, the issue is likely software-related.
Perform a System Restore:
- If the keyboard recently stopped working, you can try using Windows' System Restore feature to revert your system to a previous state when the keyboard was functioning.
Reset the Laptop:
- You can perform a system reset if none of the above steps work. Before doing this, ensure all your data is backed up.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
