Hi @-se-57__,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop's keyboard is locked or not responding, try these troubleshooting steps.

Check if the keyboard is disabled:

  • Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to see if the keyboard responds on the lock screen.
  • If it does, the issue might be software-related.

Toggle Num Lock or Filter Keys:

  • Press the Num Lock key to ensure it's not causing the issue.
  • Check if Filter Keys are enabled:
    1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
    2. Navigate to Accessibility > Keyboard.
    3. Ensure Filter Keys is turned off.

Restart your laptop:

  • A simple restart can often fix temporary glitches.

Check for physical keyboard lock shortcuts:

  • Some HP laptops have a keyboard lock/unlock shortcut. Look for a key with a padlock icon and press Fn + that key.

External keyboard test:

  • Connect an external USB keyboard to check if the issue is hardware or software-related.

Update or reinstall keyboard drivers:

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards.
  3. Right-click on your keyboard driver and choose Update driver or Uninstall device.
  4. Restart the laptop to reinstall the drivers automatically.

Run the HP Diagnostics Tool:

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly during startup to access the HP Hardware Diagnostics. Run a keyboard test.

Check for stuck keys or debris:

  • Inspect the keyboard for stuck keys or dirt. Clean it with a soft brush or compressed air.

Reset your laptop:

  • Shut down the laptop. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to perform a hard reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
