Thank you in advance.
My problem:
Sometimes when I close my laptop for a while and then come back and unlock it again, the keyboard and mouse behave differently. The keyboard will often randomly not input letters that I type (for example, if I try to type "my keyboard is not working properly" it will instead type "my kybod isnot workig prperl"), this includes space and backspace, and whenever I hold a key down it will input that letter only once (for example, "s" instead of "ssssssssssssssssss"). Or sometimes when I try to type, the letters will only act as hotkeys and start opening, closing, or controlling programs. Or the keyboard just stops working altogether. At the same time, my touchpad acts differently, often the two-finger scroll stops working among other gestures. The issue only disappears when I turn off my computer and turn it on again, restarting the computer does not work.
When it began:
The issue only began after installing the most recent windows 10 update, and because my computer has an AMD processor and graphics card I install AMD drivers after every major windows update. The issue only presents itself after the laptop has been closed for a while and I log in. I never have a problem logging on and the effect does not kick in until I have been logged on for about a minute.
What I have tried:
- Using the onscreen keyboard - the same typing issue affects the onscreen keyboard also.
- Updating the keyboard and touchpad drivers - and then uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.
- Turning off sticky keys.
- Turning off toggle keys.
- Turning off filter keys.
- Turning off num lock.
- Running windows troubleshooters.
- Running HP hardware diagnostics.
Nothing works except turning off the computer and then turning it on again. Can anyone help?

@ChampsCrew Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that keyboard missing letters or only acting as hotkeys and touchpad behaves differently.
Try updating the computer, this will install the latest updates -
Step 1 Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Step 2 Install updates using HP Support Assistant
- In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.
- Check for updates.
- If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.
Please update the BIOS and check.
