This all started randomly, i put my pc to sleep and when i came back the keyboard wouldn't work.
As such i started debugging. Went straight to device manager, only found the keyboard under the hidden devices with the error 24, tried updating, uninstalling and removing devices and restarting each time. Nothing worked, i updated windows and the BIOS, still no luck. I even re-installed windows! But then i remembered that i also had ubuntu installed as a dual boot setup. Luckily for me inside ubuntu the keyboard worked just fine. Not only that, when i uninstalled ubuntu and installed arch, to become my daily driver, the keyboard still worked! so it's not a hardware problem i believe!

Can someone help?

Hi @Ndmg,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I can understand how confusing this situation must be. Since your keyboard works perfectly in Ubuntu and Arch but not in Windows, this strongly suggests the issue is related to Windows configuration or drivers rather than a hardware failure.

Error 24 in Device Manager usually means the device is present but Windows is unable to start it due to a driver or configuration issue. As the keyboard functions normally in other operating systems, the hardware itself appears to be fine.

Please try the following steps:

Step 1: Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter

Press Windows + I to open Settings.
Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
Locate Keyboard and click Run.
Allow the troubleshooter to complete and apply any suggested fixes.

Step 2: Adjust Power Management settings

Open Device Manager.
Locate the keyboard under Keyboards or Hidden devices.
Right click and select Properties.
Go to the Power Management tab.
Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power if available.
Click OK and restart the system.

Step 3: Reinstall the keyboard driver

In Device Manager, right click the keyboard device.
Select Uninstall device.
Restart the PC and allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.

If Roll Back Driver is available under Properties > Driver tab, you may also try that option.

Step 4: Check wake settings

Open Command Prompt as administrator.
Run the following command:

powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

If the keyboard is not listed, run:

powercfg /deviceenablewake "Device Name"

Step 5: Test in Safe Mode

Restart the PC.
Hold Shift and click Restart.
Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
Choose Safe Mode with Networking.

If the keyboard works in Safe Mode, it indicates a software or driver conflict in normal Windows mode.

Please let us know the outcome.

We will take it step by step from there.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a blissful day 😇

Unfortunatly nothing worked 😞

I do, however, have 2 new pieces of info!

1- When doing step 5, i had to insert a bitlocker key in a blue screen (not the error/death one), in that screen the keyboard(numbers and F1-F10) worked.

2-Inside device manager -> after showing hidden devices and selecting properties on the keyboard->events i got the following logs:

Device ACPI\HPQ8001\4&34ff65f&0 had a problem starting.

Driver Name: keyboard.inf
Class GUID: {4d36e96b-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Service: i8042prt
Lower Filters:
Upper Filters:
Problem: 0x18
Problem Status: 0x0

Hope this helps!
