My son wanted to see if he could put Linux on this, and he was successful.  Now he needs to get windows back on it before Dad finds out.  He bought a boot flash drive from someone on Amazon.  I assume he needs a windows product key - he was sure it would be under the battery.  It wasn’t.  Please someone tell me how to fix this?

The Windows product key is encrypted in the PC's BIOS.

You don't need the product key to reinstall Windows.

Use the HP cloud recovery tool to make a bootable USB recovery drive to reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.

Since you have to use the utility on another PC as yours is not working, you have to enter your PC's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.

Your PC's product number is 7L2C7UA#ABA
