@bigalf, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

To assist you better, what model HP PC are you using?

Refer to this document to know how to find the Product Name or Product Number.

For now, let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Run Windows Update troubleshooter

Check for any pending windows update on the PC.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click on Update & security.

Reboot the PC once done.

Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Check for updates.
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

HP Envy 17" Laptop, I7, M.2 used mostly on WIFI connection to my router.

I have already done everything you suggest.  HP Support keeps presenting the update, but the update fails to install.  Sometimes I just delete the request but it keeps coming back periodically.  I have tried several times.  Maybe I need to be connected to my router with ethernet when I try to install the update?

Thank you for the response. The update notification, is it from HP Support Assistant?

To assist you better, could you send a picture/image of the same.

Keep me posted.

I suggest you run the SFC Scan first to correct any Windows file errors

Please follow the instructions in this Link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026529/windows-10-using-system-file-checker

Then run the updates again

Keep me posted
