Bought a laptop around 2019 and didn't use it often, 2020 around spring I opened it up and was met with a message saying "Boot device not found; install operating system. Error code 3F0"
Did diagnosis on memory drive it was fine, then hard drive which was fine, so I shut it down and restarted a few times until I heard the Disc get stopped making an abrasion sound, after diagnosis failed the drive.
Took it to a local tech, he replaced the disc with a SSD, and reinstalled windows. Worked fine for a month. 3 months later after I have touched my laptop I open it and get Code 3F0 again.
Pretty late to ask forums but what is going on???

Your installation of Windows but NOT using HP OEM media was a BIG MISTAKE! Why? Because the customer hardware included with HP laptops requires HP drivers for full functionality and the drivers installed from MS media are only generic ones that provide basic functionality.
One or more functions is not going to work properly or at all -- and this will be entirely because the wrong drivers have been installed. As long as you have those drivers, functionality will be missing from the laptop -- so some stuff is not going to work.
The ONLY way to fix this is to install from media created from the HP CLoud Recovery tool.
If your PC is a 2016 model or newer, you should see if you can make a bootable USB recovery drive using the HP cloud recovery tool on a working PC.
The recovery drive can then be used to install Windows and the HP drivers and utilities that originally came with your PC.
You will need a working PC and a 32GB USB stick to hold the recovery files. Here is the link:

You use the Microsoft Store to download the actual tool:

If you use a different PC to run the tool, you will have to provide your PC's product number. Here is an HP link for finding that information:
