My laptop's(HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cc1xx) battery percentage is stuck at 48%. During charging the percentage does not increase, during usage it does not decrease, it's just stuck at 48%. One day I was using my laptop, nothing heavy, my screen went black, and it wouldn't come back but the laptop was still running, so I restarted my laptop and since then the battery percentage has been stuck. I am not facing any issues with the battery life. However, whenever the battery actually discharges to 0, the laptop is forcefully shut down leading to various issues like forcefully closing all the applications. And now I am afraid that if leave my laptop to charge for a long time it won't know that the battery is fully charged and keep on charging the battery beyond its limits, which may cause serious issues. I tried uninstalling the battery drivers and switching off and restarting it again, but that did not work. I waited for an update, but even after that, the issue was not resolved. I replaced my battery almost 2 years ago but didn't face any issues with it until now.

Hi @Vantage1705,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there might be an issue with the battery sensor or the battery itself. Here are a few steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.
Steps to Troubleshoot Battery Issues
Perform a Battery Calibration:
- Charge the Battery:
- Turn off your laptop and plug it into the charger.
- Charge the battery to 100% and leave it plugged in for another hour.
- Discharge the Battery:
- Unplug the charger and turn on your laptop.
- Use the laptop until the battery is completely drained and the laptop shuts down.
- Recharge the Battery:
- Plug the charger back in and charge the battery to 100% without interruption.
- Turn on your laptop and check if the battery percentage updates correctly.
Check Battery Health:
- Windows Battery Report:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
- This will generate a battery report saved as an HTML file. Locate and open the file to check the battery health.
- HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F2 to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Select “Component Tests,” then “Power,” and finally “Battery.”
Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Ensure that your BIOS and all drivers are up to date. You can download the latest versions from the HP Support website for your specific laptop model.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC):
- For Windows laptops:
- Shut down your laptop.
- Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and charger, then turn on your laptop.
Inspect the Battery Connection:
- If you are comfortable doing so, check the battery connections inside the laptop to ensure they are secure. Sometimes a loose connection can cause issues.
By following these steps, you should be able to determine whether the issue is with the battery itself or if there is another underlying problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
