Hi HP Community,
I have an older hp laptop and I believe that the hard drive has crashed. The screen is hazy and unresponsive to any commands. I'm wondering if I'm able to send a remote command of some kind from my desktop using the serial number info, etc for the laptop, to tell it to reset the hard drive and start over??? Or is there any other way to do a hard reset on my laptop without being able to see if the the computer is even responding? Kind o f a 'hail Mary' before I toss it. Y

Hi:
Unfortunately, there is no way to remotely reset the PC.
You can use another PC running W7 64 bit or newer and a 32 GB USB flash drive with the HP cloud recovery tool that will create a bootable recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

You may want to run the hard drive diagnostics test (F2), and see if the drive is good.
