Hi @Chellegar,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're encountering errors while trying to optimize the performance of your HP Laptop PC 15s. Let's address each of the tasks you mentioned one by one and provide some troubleshooting steps.

Delete Temporary Files:

  • You can try using the built-in Windows Disk Cleanup tool to delete temporary files. To do this, press the Windows key, type "Disk Cleanup," and select the app. Follow the on-screen instructions to clean up temporary files.

Delete Prefetch Files:

  • Deleting prefetch files manually is not recommended, as Windows manages them automatically to improve system performance. You generally don't need to delete these files. If you've already deleted them and are facing issues, you may need to let Windows rebuild the prefetch data over time.

Empty Recycle Bin:

  • Emptying the recycle bin is a straightforward process. Right-click on the recycle bin icon on your desktop and select "Empty Recycle Bin." If you encounter an error, please provide more details about the error message.

Clearing Web Browsers:

  • If you're having trouble clearing your web browser's cache, cookies, and browsing history, you can do this from within your browser's settings. Each browser has slightly different steps, but typically, you can find these options in the browser's settings or preferences menu. If you specify which web browser you're using, I can provide more specific instructions.

If you continue to experience issues or receive error messages during these tasks, it's possible that there may be underlying system issues or disk errors. In such cases, consider the following steps.

Run Disk Check:

  • Use the built-in Windows Check Disk utility to scan and repair disk errors. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator and type chkdsk /f and then press Enter. You may need to restart your computer for the scan to run.

Check for System Updates:

  • Make sure your operating system and drivers are up to date. Check for Windows updates and update your HP laptop's drivers from the official HP website.

Perform a System File Check:

  • Run the System File Checker utility to scan for and repair corrupted system files. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

Check for Malware:

  • Sometimes, performance issues can be caused by malware or viruses. Run a thorough malware scan using a reputable antivirus program.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
