I have an HP 2000-2d19wm model. Originally the computer came with WIN 8.1 on it and I erased the drive and reinstalled Windows 7. Now I want to perform a factory reset and put it back to the original system that it came with.
Before erasing the drive I made a bootable flash drive which I thought could be used in this case. After I turn on the computer the computer goes through the recovering process then it gets to about 50% then stops. I doesn't continue the process. I get some error message that it had to stop.
I am not sure if the HD or the flash drive is bad. I don't have the DVD recovery media either.

Hi:
The specs for your notebook indicate that it originally came with W8 from HP.
If the recovery media you made isn't working, you won't be able to factory reset the notebook.
HP no longer sells recovery media for that model, so you would have to buy it from this non-HP vendor.
Here is a way you can clean install W8.1 by using the W8 product key in your notebook's BIOS...
Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC, if yours is not working...You want W8.1 64 bit.

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.
This is the generic key for W8.1 'Standard.'

When you get to the screen that asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the hard drive, leaving just one partition of unallocated space. Click Next, and W8.1 should begin to install.
If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8 key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.
After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the W8.1 generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.
I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so it is bootable.
Then you can install the available drivers and software from your PC's support page.

I asked Computer Surgeons if the recovery media is genuine HP product and they said it is based on an image. So, they make recovery media based on images for HP notebooks and other HP products. I understand there may not be physical DVDs like the old days.
The person I spoke to was not all that helpful in working with me on getting the correct recovery media for this particular HP notebook.
Since I created my own recovery media on a flash drive based on the original state and I used the recovery partition to do it. Why does it stop at 50% and doesn't complete it?
Yes, I know I can install WIN 8.1 or 10 using a flash drive or DVD. It doesn't make any sense to me why it fails.
