Greetings,

I have an HP Laptop, Model 14-fq0110wm (5Z7Y9UA) that for the life of me I am unable to get to boot off of a 32GB USB Flash Drive created with Rufus formatted exFAT. There was no provision for GPT so I had to go with the default of MBR but that shouldn't be an issue. If I am incorrect please let me know, but again, MBR was the only choice. The BIOS is UEFI / GPT.

The Flash Drive is visible in File Explorer and Disk Management. Secure Boot is disabled.  Below is a screen capture of the Bios settings. Any input greatly appreciated!

Best,

LGLDSR71

Hi:

If you are installing Windows, format the drive with the NTFS file system.

Set up the Rufus menu as shown on the Rufus webpage for Windows installations GPT partition scheme.

To boot from the USB flash drive, have it plugged into the USB port.

Turn on or restart the PC.

Immediately tap...tap...tap...the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu and from that select the UEFI USB flash drive/USB hard disk and press the Enter key.

The PC should boot from the flash drive.

Thanks Paul.

I'm not installing Windows. I need a bootable USB for use with a Backup program.

Many thanks!

Lyman

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I would not know what parameters you need to set Rufus up for the program you use.

You can try the same parameters for Windows, I suppose.
