Hello hoping for some help if possible.
After I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. I then started to have issues with the rechargeable Laptop battery that allows the laptop to not be plugged in to use the battery would not charge shortly after Win 10 fresh clean install.
I searched online for ideas what it could be and found one temporary work around that works.
You have to have the laptop unplugged running on battery and go to device manager and under battery you click on it and it expands and shows there is 2 things listed about battery then uninstall both under battery see pictures below and shutdown the computer then start up and usually it works fine and then charges many times for about a while until it stops again I just go do the same thing again and it works again for a time.
Sounds like a driver issue maybe Microsoft driver is junk or is there a HP driver that I can use to override the Microsoft one?
Or is there a known issue with this and a update or patch fix or something?
Thank you.

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,
After reviewing your post, I see that your PC was shipped with Windows 7 and unfortunately there are no software and driver available for Windows 10.
This PC has not been tested for Windows 10, For more details, please refer to this support document - HP Products Tested with Windows 10
Regarding the issue, I would suggest here is to run a test on the battery either from HP Hardware diagnostics or using HP Support Assistant.
HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows)
If the test passes, I would suggest here is to update the drivers. Since there are no software and driver download available for Windows 10 on our HP support website.
You would need to rely on generic Windows drivers or install it using HP Support Assistant.
Let's run Windows Updates troubleshooter -
Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.
Now try to perform Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
If the issue persists, let's download the drivers using HP Support Assistant.
To download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
Keep me posted for further assistance.
That said, If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution and Kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Have a great day!

Thank you for your reply.
No windows 10 drivers?
What!
Ok I have not applied the temporary fix recently that is uninstall the battery drivers in device manager and restart.
So the battery still doesn't charge currently.
So I used HP diagnostic software to scan battery it quickly said canceled. No reason given.
I used HP support program to test battery and it said unknown.
So it’s not able to test the battery I think because I need to apply the quick fix so it can detect the battery.
Also weird is that the laptop says the battery is fully charged but when I unplug the laptop power cord computer shuts off.
I check for windows updates fully updated. I used the HP support program to check for updates no updates. Not sure why there would be updates to the battery as you mentioned no HP Windows 10 drivers. Also updates from Microsoft would not do anything as the drivers I have are from Microsoft and latest they have and nothing new been released since.
But it would be worth a try to for the process of elimination of the issue.
But if I apply the temporary fix I think the battery test will work and then I can check for updates again on both HP support and Microsoft updates.
But doubt any updates will be available as mentioned above.
If I apply the temporary fix. There is no quick way to tell quickly if anything we try will fix it as you have to wait days weeks for it to again not let the battery charge again to know if it worked or not.
I posted on a Microsoft MVP guys page that helps for a clean install of windows 10 he recommends to try to use the windows 8 drivers from HP I think to see if they work. He said as follows.
"
There are however WIndows 8 drivers from then so I'd compare each of them to see if they are newer or possibly provide better performance than the Windows drivers. HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads
I notice there's also still an active AC adapter recall on the model so I'd pursue that and find out what its about and if you can get a replacement.
Finally you could trace the exact hardware ID for the battery and AC adapter drivers to see if there are any newer drivers to be found that suit that exact match. See the Hardware ID tracing section here:
Not sure if this will help what he recommended but any help you can help me with to understand what he wants me to do and what you want me to do is greatly appreciated.
I’m assuming you have to use some compatibility program to do this as updating the driver with a older driver I think says your current driver is newer than the one you're trying to install. Not sure if it will let me going by memory.
Do you want me to apply the temp fix to hopefully be able then to test the battery etc. ?
I say this because if we do as I mentioned it could be weeks before we know if it’s fixed after if we try something so will you leave my question open and not close it for a few months?
I await your reply.
Thank you.

In this scenario, I would suggest you run a test on the battery from F2.
Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.
1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.
4. The Component Tests menu displays
Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:
1. In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click Battery.
2. Click Run once.
The Battery Test begins.
3. When the battery test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen. For additional battery information, click Battery Details.
If the battery fails one of the tests, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) so you have it available when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu.
Let me know the outcome!
Cheers 🙂

f3 run-in test
f4 hard disk test
f11 error log
esc exit.
also the rest of your steps say to click on stuff i have no ability to click on anything this is in a DOS like mode before windows even boots up.
i followed your instructions step 1 and step 2 how do i proceed?
Thank you
P.S. The main startup screen that comes up after hitting the esc key on start up is as follows.

This looks like you have an older version of Hardware diagnostics installed. So, request you to go ahead and install the latest version of HP Hardware diagnostics using this link.
Once done, please follow the steps from the previous post which should help you resolve this issue.
Let me know the outcome!
Thank you 🙂

Thank you for your reply.
I already have the software installed for windows.
But you were having me try a DOS battery test and this system does not have it.
Your link you provided has 2 links to choose from one link for WINDOWS which I already have and other is a UEFI one.
If you click the UEFI link then it gives other options one is HP PC HARDWARE DIAGNOSTICS 4-IN-1 USB KEY
Another one is VISION DIAGNOSTICS this can be put on a CD.
So which one would you like me to use?
I believe we were still trying to do a Dos battery test way before windows even boots up?
Thank you

@Jeet_Singh,
I applied the temporary fix as I said before if you uninstall the battery drivers from the device manager the battery works fine again and charges and works fine on battery and not have to plugged in.
So now that I uninstalled the battery drivers from the device manager the battery now again is seen by the laptop and it charges and is charged now fully. I now then ran the Windows Hp Diagnostic software on the battery and the test passed and I ran a test on the ac cord adapter the test passed.
Did this many times it passes says passed. The Issue is with the Hp battery drivers I believe. And I have done a clean fresh install of Windows 10 before these issues started..
Also after we bought this laptop the battery had issues so we ordered a new battery straight from HP. Then after installing windows 10 now issues. But HP wont update their battery drivers for windows 10 it seems. I'm going to try what the Microsoft MvP said to do try the Hp windows 8 battery drivers see if it helps or works. Someone else posted in here mentioned to try to update the bios. I will see if it already has the latest one or not or if that helps..

@ Justin-Bei,
Hi I will try that and see if it has the latest bios or not. But I believe its the battery drivers and HP wont update them. 🙂
Thank you for your help and any other help you can give me.. I was told by a Microsoft MVP to try the HP battery drivers for windows 8 to see if they help better.
