Hello, I have gotten yesterday an old HP Elitebook 8440p from my IT Admin, he has bought it in 2010 and it was last touched in 2013 until now, it is from my Swedish municipality that was meant to be for students or the school staff, anyways I saw that the BIOS Was locked, I opened up the keyboard and saw the CMOS, I disconnected it and left it for 10 minutes disconnected, then I reconnected everything and after getting to boot up the computer, it was stuck at the hp startup logo and for some reason my municipalities name was at the boot?? Anyways then a screen popped up and said "Cmos reset detected, please press ENTER to restart" before I even had time to read what it said, it instantly rebooted and screen was blank, now everytime I reboot the laptop it gives me a blank screen however the fans are running and the keyboard light up, and for your information, the battery is broken so it only works when connected to charger

Does anyone know a solution? I would be extremely thankful, thanks!

Many times when a situation like that happens and the CMOS is reset, it also needs to be set to defaults.  In order to get into the BIOS, try this to get a pop-up menu then you can also run the Diagnostics routine, but that same pop-up menu will give you a way to enter the setup menu and reset the BIOS to defaults.  If the BIOS is still locked, then we are not allowed to help with passwords.  Talk to the IT Admin staff from the Swedish municipality for the password.

Running the Diagnostics will show you if anything has failed or been corrupted while it was sitting unused for so long.

To run the Diagnostics routine, Start tapping the Esc key BEFORE starting the PC and then press the start button.
Keep tapping the Esc key until a popup menu shows. Then pick Diagnostics from that popup menu, F2.
Report back with the results.

Yes, the laptop is not working still, all I want is that the screen isn't blank but nothing is working

If you are stating that the process to enter the BIOS, as I described in the post above,  did not produce any results, then I am afraid you need to seek help with an "in person" visit to a repair tech.  Start with a local shop where you can talk and show them the problem and get an estimate for a repair.

I suspect the cost will out weigh the value of the laptop.
