HP Notebook - 14-cf1599sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I'm having a recurring issue with my laptop- HP Notebook - 14-cf1599sa, Product Number: 5AT11EA. Every time I move my laptop when it's on, it completely crashes. Unless I switch it off and turn it back on, 100% it's going to crash. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Wow, I doubt we can help directly.

If the computer is "completely" shutting off when moved, there might be a number of causes - none of which can be solved with any software, update, or other "soft" intervention.

Examples - NOT all inclusive

Complete shut down could be something loose that should never be loose (component shifting around, tiny cable connecting the drive or other essential "bit").

Complete shut down / crash might mean the battery has failed AND that moving the computer is causing the AC adapter to shift and lose connection.  This would certainly cause a crash - a notebook running without use of the battery means it is "like a desktop" and is completely dependent on its AC power.

If the computer is losing the visible screen display when moved, this might be (still hardware) due to the connection between the display and the board being broken - could be the display cable that is squished, broken, or disconnecting.

What to do Today and every day that you continue to use the computer?

Do keep all your data (files and folders) backed up to other than on the computer itself.  Current backups are essential to protect your data.  If the computer suddenly becomes unusable, it will be too late to backtrack.

Thank you.

I don't know if I expressed myself correctly- the screen freezes and the laptop becomes unresponsive. I have to then use the power button to reset the laptop. In other words, the screen doesn't go blank, it just freezes on whatever is on there at the time and the mouse doesn't work. I'm not sure whether that changes anything? Thank you again.

OK - display goes dark when computer is moved.

Not crashed.

No, it doesn't change anything.

Physically moving the computer results in the screen switching off.

From original post:

Additional comments

If the notebook is difficult to open and close, the underlying cause might be related to a hinge failure.

Everything I have said is "guess work", that is, "maybe it is this or that".

You need to have a licensed technician look at the computer to determine the cause of the problem.

Be sure you back up your data so you have access to your important files if the computer becomes unusable.
