HP Notebook 15-ay542tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a new genuine HP laptop battery (HS04) for my Notebook 15-ay542tu. I charged the new battery for almost 3 hours, but it got stuck at 85% and after i restarted my laptop for 2 or 3 times, updated the bios, reinstalled the battery drivers and used the UEFI diagnostic tool it increased to 90% then again got stuck. If you unplug the adapter charger the laptop shuts down  immediately.

Windows Specifications:

  • Windows 10 Pro
  • 1909
  • 18363.1171

These are my laptop details.

Your description is of a bad battery.

I do hope you purchased one with a one year warranty.

Contact the vendor and request an RMA for a replacement unit.

Ok, I understand that the battery is bad. But I bought the battery yesterday and it still retains the charge i.e. 90% before  and after unplugging and plugging it to the laptop.

How do you ascertain that? A new battery should charge to 100%, otherwise there is a problem.
