Dear All,
I was about to write a panicked message in the Community Support, but THANKFULLY I solved the issue. I definitely know what I am thankful for today!!! I thought I would still write about it in case someone else encounters this issue and is thrown into a pit of panic and despair.
TL;DR: if you run Windows 11 and your laptop does not charge even when plugged in, go to HP Support for Windows11 and have HP check your drivers. You may be missing critical ones, such as the HP Firmware Pack Intel Processor, which fixed my issue once I downloaded it and installed.
I have an HP Pavilion laptop. I switched to Windows 11 a few days ago (6) and everything seemed to be fine. Yesterday I realized my laptop was NOT charging even when plugged up. It took me a while to realize what was happening because I had unplugged the laptop for a brief period and, when I plugged it back in, I did not think about checking the charge.
So, back to yesterday when I saw that the charge was stuck at 67%. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back, reboot it, check the charger cables, un-do the ccleaner changes to the registry, check for viruses and spywares for good measure.
When that did not work, I tried looking the issue up online since it happened soon after I upgraded to Win.11. I found a website that offered 10 ways of fixing it, including updating the battery drivers. I tried all of them. ALL. OF. THEM. And... NOTHING WORKED! As the day progressed and I worked on the laptop, I watched the plugged-in battery slowly but inexorably drain. I even tried keeping the laptop shut down for a while, hoping it would charge, but NOTHING. It went down to 60% charge. At that point I was ROYALLY FREAKING OUT! I had to shut down the laptop and go to bed because I literally could not take it anymore. I hoped to approach the issue the day after with a different mindset. I even had to meditate for a while to calm down!
This afternoon, the MIRACLE: I was able to assess the situation a bit more rationally than the day before and considered the HP support center. There I found a diagnostic tool that checks the drivers in your laptop and lets you know if you are missing something important. And THERE IT WAS: the Critical Update of HP FIRMWARE PACK INTEL PROCESSOR. Downloaded it, installed it, saw it upgrade the BIOS, restarted the laptop as required and ... THE BATTERY STARTED CHARGING AGAIN!!! EUREKA!!! I had never been so happy in my life to see the charge move from 60% to 62 and up!!!Thank you Spirit of Thanksgiving Day!!!
I hope this saves some other affected users some heartache and their sanity. Thanks for reading me and happy Thanksgiving!
