Hi @srividyan,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must feel to see your HP laptop show a full battery yet refuse to power on unless it's plugged in. That moment when you press the power button, expecting it to spring to life, only to be met with silence… It’s unsettling, especially when you're relying on it for your work.

Let’s walk through the steps to troubleshoot this issue with care and clarity. These steps are designed to gently uncover whether the battery is truly healthy or if something deeper is affecting power delivery.

Step-by-Step: HP Recommended Fix for Battery Not Powering Laptop

  1. Perform a Hard Reset
This clears temporary memory and resets hardware connections:
    • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
    • Unplug the power adapter.
    • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect only the power adapter and try turning on the laptop.

  2. Run HP Battery Check via HP Support Assistant
This tool checks battery health and gives a clear status:
    • Open HP Support Assistant (or download it here if not installed).
    • Go to Battery Check and run the diagnostic.
    • If it shows a failure, note the Failure ID for warranty support.

  3. Observe Battery Light Behavior
    • If the battery light blinks or stays off even when charged, it may indicate a battery or power circuit issue.
    • Refer to this HP guide for detailed battery light meanings and next steps.

        4. BIOS Restore:

  • Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in
  • Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.
  • Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
