Hi @Atul_m123,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

We understand that the notebook starts only when the AC adapter is connected and shuts down immediately when the adapter is removed.

Please provide the complete HP notebook model or product number. Press Fn + Esc while Windows is open to view the product information. Do not post the serial number publicly.

Please also confirm:

  • Does Windows show that the battery is charging?
  • Is the battery percentage displayed, or does it show Battery not detected?
  • When did the issue begin?
  • Did it begin after a BIOS or Windows update?

First, try a BIOS recovery:

  1. Turn off the notebook and keep the AC adapter connected.
  2. Press and hold Windows + B.
  3. While holding the keys, press the Power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the Power button while continuing to hold Windows + B.
  4. If the HP BIOS Update screen appears, allow the recovery to complete without interrupting it.
  5. After Windows starts, check whether the battery is detected and charging.

If the issue continues, run the battery test:

  1. Keep the AC adapter connected and shut down the notebook.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly.
  3. When the Startup Menu appears, press F2.
  4. Select Component Tests > Power > Battery > Run once.
  5. Note whether the result shows Passed, Calibrate, Weak, Replace, or Failure ID.

The HP Battery Test runs outside Windows and helps determine whether the issue is with the battery hardware rather than Windows. If the battery fails, note the displayed 24-digit Failure ID.

You can follow the documented battery-test procedure here: HP Notebook PCs - Testing and calibrating the battery (Windows) | HP® Support

Please share the complete model number and the F2 Battery Test result so we can provide the correct next step.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
