@Werner1123,

A warm welcome to the HP support forums and a good day to you. I reviewed the case. I will be happy to assist you here.

  • DId it happen after a power outage or surge?
  • Did you connect an external monitor like a TV screen via an HDMI cable and check
  • if you find it on the external screen?
  • Did you check if the purple spot is found in the bios?

Let's try these steps:

Perform a hard reset on the computer by following directions from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768

Then connect the computer to an external monitor or a TV via an HDMI cable and check if the purple spot appears on the external screen also.

If it does, then the graphics card is the culprit.

Also check in the bios if you can see the purple spot. Steps to go to the bios:

  • Keep tapping the Esc key gently several times  as soon as you power on the computer.
  • It takes you to the startup menu.
  • Then press the F10 key to go the bios.
  • Check in the bios if the purple spot is seen
  • Then press the F9 key  to load setup defaults and select yes and push “enter.” to boot back to windows.
  • Then press the F10  key to save changes and exit.

So if the spot is found in the bios, then it is a hardware issue with the computer and it needs to be repaired.

If it is not present  in the bios, then perform these steps:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
  • Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphics drivers from this link: http://hp.com/drivers Select the country and type the product# of the unit. Then follow the onscreen instructions.
  • Now check for issue resolution.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

@Werner1123,

I reviewed the post comprehensively. Thank you for trying these steps to isolate the issue perfectly. It is very clear that the display (screen of the computer) has an issue and needs to be replaced. as the external monitor does not show any problems.

I am being honest about it here, by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.

I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action. Check your forum private message box in the upper right corner next to the bell icon.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead and good luck.
